Ever dreamt about seeing the African Big 5 up close? Well for years now we have been offering clients exactly that Game Drive Safaris to the Game Reserve Hluhluwe & Imfolozi, this Park the Oldest in Africa world renown for its Safe the Rhino campaighn, Game Capture Program & King Shaka's history alone has always captivated the imagination of many a traveller.
The park 96000 hectares cannot compare to the Kruger National Park and personally we don't want it to, why? Well imagine driving for days and days and not get to the other side of the park, Hluhluwe / Imfolozi is divided up into 2 sections the Northern section being Hluhluwe and the Southern section Imfolozi. Thus automatically one knows before hand which side one wants to travel to and the distances required are manageable. Please do not get me wrong both sides can be travelled in a day but not recommended.
The Northern section ( Memorial gate ) Hluhluwe offers very scenic landscape with rolling hills and various lookout vantage points, restaurant at Hilltop and accommodation is also available here. However from mid July the Northern section becomes incredibly busy with cars ( self drive travellers ) and game drive operators some times a single sighting of Elephant may have up to 20 cars viewing this magnificent animal.
The Lower Southern section Imfolozi on the other hand is less busy year round, and also offers a larger area to safari in, this section of the park also has a restaurant ( Centenery centre ), this the Imfolozi is where it happens on a daily basis, travelling south towards Mpilla camp ( self catering chalets ) and beyond is the area known as hot.
Once you get onto the gravel section of the park the vegetation starts to change dramatically and this area may offer you sightings of African Lion & Cheetah.
Areas such as Sontuli has always been incredible, Wild Dog packs hunting Impala and not so long ago Wild Dogs hunting Wildebeest unsuccessfully, Herd of Elephant crossing the Umfolozi River and Lions basking in the African sun waiting for an opportunity to strike that unsuspecting species. Imfolozi is magical it gives you an impression of being in a timeless African wonder surely this is what it must have been like years ago. Ezemvello KZN Wildlife manage this Park and have done so with enthusiasm their passion is indescribable. Species such as the African Wildebeest before had TB and at an alarming rate 50 % of the total herd where infected to date approximately 15% now only have the devastating disease and it will be completely cured through determination of the guys that work their daily.
I can most certainly say with out a doubt that should you be interested in taking part in a Safari Hluhluwe Imfolozi will not let you down as a destination. Explore and wonder the Bush awaits you.
